Biography

Societal awareness of the harm caused by misuse of alcohol and other drugs has increased dramatically over the last two decades.  Whether it is using alcohol in a pattern known as "binge drinking," the inappropriate use of prescription medications, or the use of illegal substances, these behaviors can cause significant, and in some cases, irreversible harm.  The good news is that these behaviors, no matter how severe, can be changed for the better.

Vickie Longwill has the neccessary training, experience, and skill to guide individuals and families on the path to a better life.  Vickie was initially certified as an alcohol and drug abuse counselor, and was among the first professionals in Texas to be recognized as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC).  She is also a certified Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) and  is both a board and internationally certified addiction professional.  Her work experience encompasses all areas of substance abuse counseling - community organizing and outreach, inpatient treatment, outpatient treatment, adults and adolescents, individuals and families.  Ms. Longwill has extensive experience with both the criminal and family law systems, including conducting forensic substance abuse evaluations and providing expert testimony.

Some highlights of Vickie's career are:

v    First Executive Director of the Area Counties Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (ACCADA), a community outreach agency for which Vickie obtained state funding.

v    Clinical supervisor of a specialized, in-prison, treatment program focusing on relapse prevention strategies and techniques.

v   Managed a $200,000 annual contract with Harris County Child Protective Services (CPS) which provided substance use assessment, procurement and oversight of five outpatient treatment service providers to parents involved in CPS cases.  This program expanded to serve Montgomery and Walker Counties during the four year contract.

v  Coordinated and clinically supervised all case management services for participants in the Harris County STAR Family Intervention Court; a family dependency drug court using an innovative, multi-disciplinary team approach to treating families with addiction problems.

Throughout her career, Vickie's practice has been guided by respect for every individual as a person who has the capacity to change.  She sees her role as providing a mirror that reflects the consequences of her client's maladaptive choices so that awareness can grow.  Vickie provides individualized services to each person she sees.
